Hip and Shoulder AVN

Avascular Necrosis or AVN is a very complicated diagnosis. Avascular Necrosis by definition is the death of bone tissue due to a lack of blood supply. Also called osteonecrosis, it can lead to tiny breaks in the bone and cause the bone to collapse. The process usually takes months to years. A few causes of this disease are excessive use of corticosteroids, trauma, alcohol, or the most common idiopathic. Idiopathic means ‘relating to or denoting any disease or condition which arises spontaneously or for which the cause is unknown.’
Systemic AVN
Many autoimmune disorders such as Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis have been linked to the diagnosis of AVN.
