A Patient from France Consults with Dr. Dennis Lox

A patient from France consulted Dennis M. Lox, MD, for the evaluation and treatment of knee osteoarthritis. Knee stem cell treatments may be a viable option for some patients with underlying knee arthritis. The use of stem cells for the treatment of knee arthritis is not new and is slowly but surely gaining popularity.
Stem Cell History
Since the 1960’s stem cells were used in bone marrow transplants. It was not clear at the time that the ability to replenish needed blood cells were, in fact, a result of the donors stem cells. Now as treatments are more scientifically advanced, the patients own stem cells can be used which negates previous immune rejection issues.
The ability to use the patients own stem cells has given rise to advances in not only orthopedic applications, but in a variety of other medical fields because stem cells are the body’s basic repair cell and building block for new cells.
Stem Cell Science
The science behind stem cells continues to grow as knee stem cell treatments are common in the orthopedic application. Knee disorders such as arthritis, osteoarthritis, and ligament tears have seen the use of knee stem cell treatments. Furthermore, stem cell treatment can be used when a patient is trying to avoid surgery. The future remains bright for the continued advancement of Regenerative Medicine and stem cell science.
