Chicago Stem Cell Symposium Dr. Dennis Lox Athletes and Arthritis

Dennis M. Lox, MD, and Dr. Susan Chubinskya of RUSH University in Chicago presented on cartilage and osteoarthritis problems in Regenerative Medicine. Dr. Chubinskya is a leading authority and researcher on cartilage repair mechanisms. Dr. Lox invited Dr. Chubinskya to present the basic science foundation and research into arthritis repair mechanisms and treatment approaches. Dennis M. Lox, MD, then followed with Athletes and Stem Cells an approach he has experience in a leading Sports and Regenerative Medicine physician. Dr. Lox has treated athletes from the professional ranks in various sports to weekend warriors, as well as ex-athletes who now suffer from the effects of knee and other joint arthritis. Dr. Lox presented case studies of athletes he has treated with stem cell therapy. These included professional football and baseball players with knee and shoulder injuries, failed knee surgery, and avascular necrosis (AVN). Avascular necrosis (AVN), also known as osteonecrosis can end a sports career. AVN and stem cells, as well as stem cell injections for athletes with a variety of sports injuries, is gaining increased awareness as Regenerative Medicine becomes more well known.
