College Basketball Player with early Hip Arthritis treated with PRP
Tampa, Saint Petersburg and Clearwater, fl

A 21 year old college basketball player was found to have early degenerative hip arthritis. His participation in basketball games was affected due to pain and progressive difficulty running. He failed to improve with conservative treatment with the trainer, physical therapist, and conservative medication management. He sought Dr. Lox’s help for Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy. He did not wish to have arthroscopic surgery and desired to try and repair his hip using regenerative therapy. He also desired to continue playing basketball after college. Preferably in the European league. His age and future goals make Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) a good choice, as even arthroscopic hip surgery can accelerate arthritis, and at this age in an athlete desiring to maintain his athletic ability that would be most undesired.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) utilizes the bodies own healing capacity by providing a concentrated source of growth factors to the injured hip region. This may accelerate healing, and retard further degeneration, a much desired response in this athlete.
The basketball player proceeded to have PRP of his hip. He returned to modified sports that week, and progressed through advanced exercises. Jumping and cutting movements involving the hip were initially restricted. By 4 weeks full basketball participation in the game was achieved, with minimal difficulties. The treatment achieved the patients goals and was viewed as a succes.
